Getting to the Root of Endodontics

 

Endodontics. From the Greek endo (inside) and odons (tooth). Inside the tooth. And what’s inside the tooth? Pulp, which contains the nerves, arteries and veins for each tooth, and tissue, which surrounds the root of the tooth.

Also synonymous with Endodontics is the term “root canalâ€. The term “root canal†seems to instill fear into the hearts of anyone that hears it from their dentist. But is that fear really all that necessary? Let’s break it down and see if all that fear is really warranted.

What is a Root Canal?

Teeth can have between one and four canals. If you looked at a side view of half a molar, you would see two canals – one on each side going up from the root to the top of the tooth. As noted, these canals are the pathways for the nerves, veins and other tissue that keep the tooth alive. A root canal becomes necessary when a tooth is damaged.

When is a Root Canal Needed?

A root canal is needed when a tooth becomes damaged due to decay or infection. If a cavity is not caught in time, the decay can move deep into the tooth and cause serious damage to the pulp and tissue. To prevent further problems to the already damaged tooth, or those surrounding it, the bad areas of the tooth need to be removed and repaired. The proper term for this procedure is endodontic therapy, but most people just call it a root canal.

What Happens During the Endodontic Therapy?

The procedure is pretty simple. After applying the requisite anesthetic to numb your mouth, the dentist removes the damaged part of the tooth as far down as necessary. Once all the damaged and contaminated elements are cleaned out, the tooth – now dead – is filled with a dental composite. This composite helps keep the tooth in place. A dental crown is then fitted and attached to the top of the tooth. The dental crown restores the stability and natural look of the tooth.

It is true that dental instruments, such as tiny drills and files, are used during this process. While you won’t feel any of the work being done on your teeth, the sounds or general knowledge of what’s happening may still be a problem for you. In those cases, many dentists now offer sedation dentistry, so you can sleep lightly through the entire process.

When broken down, Endodontic Therapy isn’t that big a deal, really. It is just a common procedure that helps improve your oral hygiene and allows you eat, drink and talk without pain again. Certainly nothing to be afraid of.

Why am I still having pain in tooth after treatment?

I had a crown put on a tooth about a year ago after it got chipped. Now, I just had to have and endo go into the crown and do a root canal. He said it was a 3 canal channel or something. And was real inflamed. The pain was intense for 2 weeks going into headaches. Then when that pain let up the tooth started to be sensitive again. When i push my tongue down on it or touch the gum area or try to tap on that tooth it is very sensitive. What else could be going on?

Could be several things. Infection could still be present because all of debris has not been removed or they may another canal present. Whatever the case contact your dentist, don't wait for it to go away.

no point asking people others like the skin of each person is different. It depends on the severity of your acne. Mine was not, but nothing worked, even things RX so I had to get Accutane when I was fed up points in my 30's. test and error, sorry!

Did you get that enchanting look???

I know I cant be the only one who is mesmerized by shiny, pretty things, it is tragically true that if someone dangles a collection of shiny things in my face, for a few seconds I may loose all concentration. Therefore good strong jewelry is a good choice for me, but when it comes to my clothes, there are items that will make be picked over practicality; these are anything sequined, anything with glitter threads or pretty much any jacket with good buttons and trimmings. But how easy is it to come across yummy buttons? I say, get a good jacket and buy the buttons separately, markets can be a good place, but the buttons only look vintage, and there's a tub of them, someone else can have the same buttons as me! Its easy to say that I am not a sharer, not with my food, and no with my buttons! But a couple of months ago, I decided not to go get a jacket potato from down the road, but see what was on offer at the monthly university market.

This is a collection of independent businesses that are just starting up, like some organic, non fat, decaf coffee, with 2 sugars, soya whipped cream, half foam latte kind of crazy market, I'm kidding, I got a regular fair trade coffee. So I had a look around at the collection of clothing and jewelry and right and the end of the stalls was a little arrangement of colorful bunting and a rainbow arrangement of yarn. I'm not a knitwear student, even though I do love jumpers, but a textile design student. But my weakness is buttons and anything shiny.

There was a set of glamorous looking bunch bowls and tins filled with enchanting things, there was broken jewelry, which doesn't sound very interesting, but imagine the opportunities and the places that a broken necklace could go! Anyway there was a bowl of buttons sewn on to vintage wallpaper, well I was putty in the womens hand. I brought a handful of buttons, from gold, heavy army bad boys, to beautiful fabric coated floral and knitted buttons.

The knitted buttons are actually adorable along with some huge 1960's buttons! It was a good day, let's just say a lot was learnt from not choosing a jacket potato. When paying from my £15's of buttons, the lovely women gave me a little rectangle of unique printed wallpaper which I believe was a business card. She told me that much fonder buttons would be on the site in the next week or so, and that I should stay tuned.

1. I'm tuned in, and just like she said, two weeks later, I jumped onto www.spinstersemporium.co.uk and under Button It is 3 pages of perfect creations - now I believe there is 5 pages encountering! I think they are keeping us hooked though, like many sites do, and will bring out more beauties when the time is right, the time should be now! I'm addicted. There is not many sites that I can get attached to, but I've spent over an hour going through the sites wonders and cheer-me-up qualities. It feels like I have unlocked my inner child and I just wish I could touch and play with the merchandise, my stimulus are on heat right now!   Not only have I brought yet more buttons, but felt like I needed to update my notebooks, or maybe wall art, or just purchase some vintage wallpaper.

How exciting is vintage wallpaper! I just become flabbergasted at anything that has a well designed print, and these wallpapers tick all the boxes on style and design. My favorite was hard to choose, and although browns aren't everyone's cup of tea, yet it’s like my herbal infusion, and although there is 8 crazy colors; the wooden looking mushroom print has a strong power over me, and would look great in a frame on my average beige walls.

Obviously the whole roll of wallpaper is not available, but I decided to buy a couple of A3 sheets and also cover my sketchbook! I also had a crazy idea to line the inside of my little chest of drawers, maybe not with brown, but there is a few things that need mending, and the child's chest of drawers at the end of my bed would be perfect if lined with beautiful wallpaper and a splash of paint.

This site seems perfect for all things to creative and use inspiring materials. How often can you find truly inspiring materials? I thought my address book was already full of all boutiques, haberdashers and markets, but I think Spinster's Emporium may have to be squeezed in. I hope this site has a lot more to offer, who knows what could happen with such a distinctive website, maybe this could be our generation's all mighty Cath Kidston.
