Eczema is a commonly used term, which includes many varieties of inflamed skin conditions. Probably the most common of all forms of eczema is what is known as atopic dermatitis. About 10% to 20% of the world's population suffers from this chronic disease, which is a relapsing, and uncomfortably itchy rash during their childhood. On a positive note, many children with eczema will learn that as they get older, this disease should clear up and go away on its own.
According to NIH, the National Institutes for Health, there are roughly 15 million Americans who suffer from some form of eczema. Out of this number, 10 to 20 percent of toddlers develop eczema, but in over half of these toddlers, the disease will fully heal during the ages of 5 and 15 years old. Though there are some forms of eczema which will linger with a person throughout their entire life.
While eczema can and will look different on each person that has it, the characteristics should all be the same. These characteristics are red, dry, and irritated patches on the skin. A commonly used way to describe this skin disease is the itch, which then turns into a rash. The reason for this is that it begins as an itch, but after it is scratched, you will see a rash. You will find that this disease is not limited to just part of the body. Toddlers will normally get this disease around the legs, neck, head, forehead, and cheeks. As one gets older, this disease will target the face, neck, knees, ankles, and elbows. If the rash from eczema gets infected enough, it may begin to fester up and begin oozing.
There are ways in which eczema can be avoided if simple measures are taken. Here are some simple household measures that you can take:
Do not expose yourself to sudden climate changes, avoid intensive sweating, try to moisturize regularly, avoid harsh detergents and solvents that you are not used to, limit stress, and be cautious of any and all foods that might cause some sort of outbreak.
Another vital part of treating an outbreak of eczema is what is known as self-control, which is where you want to make sure that you do not scratch at all. Due to the basic nature of it being itchy and dry, the easiest way to get the itch out is to treat it with lotions, either over the counter or via prescription. This will keep your skin moist, and this should be performed after each bath or shower. Cold compresses that you apply to the skin can provide temporary relief from the itch as well.
my toddler (2 year old) has a rash on his bottom now for 5 months, the dr said it was candida,?
it is kind of red and yellow, and the doctor said it was candida but after 2 weeks of creme there has been no change, it is on the both sides on the top half of his bottom and sudocreme doesn't work either. It is kind of slightly pimply and is pink and in some places looks like dry yellow skin. It spreads sometimes and he gets more pimples which disappear within 24 hours. but the 2 large patches have stayed the same for 5 months now. i know i should take him back to the doc, but am travelling for holidays so i don't have time at the moment? any ideas what it could be? it is quite dry, he rarely itches it,
Call your doctor and get a prescription for nystatin. It's an anti-fungal creme that you put on at every diaper change. Or you can just go to a pharmacy and pick up some Lamisil (I think that's what it's called--you can double check with the pharmacist). It's an anti-fungal creme for adults but you just use it in the diaper area. Sudocreme (I have this as well) will not cure this as this is essentially a yeast infection (and boys do get it too).
Cellulite is an embarrassing problem for most women. Some women go to extreme measures to get rid of their cellulite including self-tanners, liposuction and lasers. However, cellulite cream remains one of the most accessible treatment options.
Many of the creams on the market today promise to melt away the excess inches on your thighs and hips while firming and contouring your skin to refine and minimize the imperfections caused by cellulite. When it comes to cellulite cream there are both high-end brands and drugstore brands that can be found in every form of cream including gels and lotions. But how can you determine which cellulite cream is best for you?
What Is Cellulite?
Before you can choose a cellulite cream you need to learn about the basics of cellulite. A cellulite cream works by lifting and smoothing the skin surface to help reduce the appearance of skin puckering.
Cellulite is caused by the accumulation of fat, fluid and toxins that become trapped in a network of collagen and elastin fibers that are found deeper in your skin. Cellulite will form when blood vessels under the skin are damaged which then weakens the outer layers of the skin. Fat will then settle into these spots cream the appearance of cellulite.
How To Find A Cellulite Cream
When it comes to cellulite cream doctors have stated that the two most effective ingredients are caffeine and retinol. These ingredients will help relieve the bumps by firming the outer layer of the skin.
Any other ingredient in cellulite cream is there to help improve the look of your skin. They may help to smooth the surface, decrease the appearance of stretch marks and increase the softness of the skin. There are ingredients such as Par Elastyl and collagen which help to firm the skin. Ginkgo, green tea, soy and horse chestnut help to tone the skin.
Cellulite cream also comes in a variety of textures. If you choose a gel it will absorb quickly and often make your skin feel tighter more quickly than other products.
Then there are lightweight lotions that aren't greasy. You can also choose rich emollient creams that have to be rubbed into the skin very well in order to avoid oil slicks on your clothes, that is why it is best to apply these only at night.
However, you should always remember that cellulite cream is only a temporary fix. These creams can't increase a persons metabolism or go to the deepest layers of the skin in order to change the underlying conditions that cause cellulite.
Cream can only change the outer appearance of your cellulite. The best thing to do is improve your diet and exercise habits so that you can permanently fix your cellulite problems.
