The Perfect Season

A 16-0 football season, a no hitter in baseball, and 25-0, 3 sets to 0 in volleyball all equal a perfect season or match.  Many of us also both before and during marriage have goals of having the perfect spouse, the perfect family, and ultimately the perfect marriage.  The analogy of sports is perfect for a marriage.  Marriage is the ultimate team sport.  Here are the top three ways you can strive for that ‘perfect season.’

1-Learn how to play as a team and not two or more individuals. In a marriage or before marriage, many strategies are created that build up one individual but not the entire team.  It is ok to do this on a temporary basis, but ultimately, a marriage should make all involved a better person and not just one individual.

2- Make time for the team. As marriages mature, it is common that the family no longer becomes a top priority.  Men tend to place importance on career development, while women tend to place more importance on their social life.  Without time for the marriage and family, breakdowns are not only easier, but also more likely.  Without making time to communicate feelings (mainly needed for woman) or physical aspects of the marriage (for men), it is hard to keep focused enough to maintain ‘winning ways.’

3-Don’t be afraid of a little humility. From becoming so close, you learn how the members in your family or team are different.  Differences must either be embraced or they become problematic.  Don’t fall into a pattern of thought that, “There is only one way to do something and that is the way I or my family did it.”  Learn to experiment with new ways of doing things and not just criticizing other team members.  You may discover (and you should) that you are not always right.  Don’t be afraid of admitting mistakes and asking for forgiveness.

A perfect season only happens from experience, overcoming many obstacles, and team members helping one another.  A marriage is an investment that with some work can bring your team a championship.

So that leaves us with Adam Morrison, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Deron Williams, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, LeBron James, Carlos Boozer, Tayshaun Prince, Gilbert Arenas, Tyson Chandler, Shane Battier, Mike Miller, Lamar Odom, Bruce Bowen, Kobe Bryant, and Jason Kidd. What would your 12 man roster be with who starting which position? Mine would be the following in their respective orders of whos starting-

PG - Jason Kidd, CP, Deron Williams
SG - Kobe Bryant, Michael Redd
SF - Lebron James, Tayshaun Prince
