Steaming a lace dress?

Hello, I bought my wedding dress 6 + months in advance. Before giving the dress I remember seeing the owner of the steam room steam my dress with a hand. My dress is lace ALL of ivory. not really fit wrinkled but still want to steam give "life" to ... since it has been sitting on a fence for a while. How do I use this steam yet? How far should I keep the web? What temperature should be the steamer to do a good job but do not burn or stain? (Do not even know if the vapors have temperature controls). I really hope that someone in the business of cloth or clothing can give me a suggestion ............
