Dead Dry Skin Under Eyes

I need advice on foundation/moisturizing?

I use moisturizer everyday but when I put foundation on, it makes my skin look powdery/chalky and dead. My skin has also been flaking. But after I wash my face and moisturize, it looks healthy.

I like to cover my scars and redness, but I can't seem to do it without these problems! Even when I put foundation mixed with moisturizer under my eyes, it creases and looks chalky and white. It actually makes the circles under my eyes look worse!

How can I have a healthy looking complextion without the dry/chalky look but cover up imperfections?

Advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

How old is your foundation? There's a good chance it might be going bad and causing the weird results. If it's more than 6 months old I would be suspicious about it.

Or, is it possibly the formula you're using? Some powder foundations can cause a cakey look if you use it right after you apply moisturizer.

I would suggest a few things:

1. if you want to cover up redness, use a green tinted concealer (I like Physician's Formula Gentle Cream Concealer, around $5).

2. Try a tinted moisturizer! You said you have healthy looking skin, but just want to cover up a few imperfections, so this would be perfect for you. Apply your concealer (see above) and then smooth a layer of the tint on. This can help with the flaking and it won't be heavy or cakey looking. If you're worried about shine set with a translucent powder. A few moisturizers I like are mark. Get a Tint Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 and Physician's Formula Organic Wear Natural Origin Tinted Moisturizer (both under $13)

3. If you want something heavier stick with a liquid foundation, but try using a primer before hand. Avon Magix and Too Faced Primed and Poreless both give great results.

4. Also, you may want to check your moisturizer to see if it's really working for you.
